There is still more than a month before it is officially fall. There is no denying it is still summer with the scorching temperatures that make any outdoor activity that doesn’t involve water feel unbearable. While we can cool down with an ice cream cone or a nice fruit smoothie, many pet parents forget to think about cooling their pets down. Here are some recipes for frozen treats you can make for your dog.
Banana Pops
There are three ingredients needed to make this:
- 4 cups of plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
Then all you need to do is simply blend all the ingredients in a blender and put either into 4 ounce cups or treat molds. Place in the freezer until frozen and then give to your dog.
Cheeseburger Poppers
These are best made in small round ice cube trays. A good tip with these is to use silicone trays because they are easier to pop out the finished product. For this you can use either broken up hamburgers or just ground beef. Put a half a teaspoon in each of the spots on the tray. Then top with small amount of grated cheese. Then fill each one with chicken broth. Put in the freezer until solid.
PB&J Pops
These are great treats to make even for yourself, though you probably should leave out the rawhide for a regular popsicle stick. To make this you will need:
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- 2 cups of strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- 1 ¾ cup plain yogurt
- 4 rawhide sticks
- 4 plastic cups
This recipe is made in layers. For the first layer, put the peanut butter and ¾ cup of yogurt into the blender to mix them fully. Pour an inch or so of the mixture into each of the cups and freeze for half an hour while you make the other layers. For the second layer, put the strawberries and ¼ cup of yogurt into the blender and blend until smooth. Set this aside. For the third layer mix together the blueberries and remaining yogurt by hand so that flavor mixes but the blueberries aren’t destroyed. After the first layer has been in the freezer for half an hour, add the rawhide sticks. Then add the strawberry layer and freeze for another half an hour. Then do the same for the third layer. Freeze for 8 hours total to ensure that it is solid. Then use warm water on the outside of the cup to slip the pop out of the cup.
Basic Peanut Butter Treats
To make this you will use a cup of peanut butter, half a ripe mashed banana and a small amount of water. Mix them together and then spoon onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. You can also spoon this into Kong treat toys as well. Let freeze and serve to your pup.
